Deterioration Diagnosis and Maintenance of Concrete Poles

Hiroshi UEDA    Teruhiro KUDO    Takahiko SASAKI

To maintain concrete poles under appropriate condition, we studied their durability and mechanism of deterioration, and performed field investigation to clarify that they deteriorate mainly due to sub-standard joints. We also used concrete pole specimens to prove that carbonation does not advance; chloride ions do not penetrate into concrete; or alkali aggregate reaction scarcely occurs in concrete poles. Therefore, it is effective to pay attention to sub-standard joints as a deterioration index in diagnosing the quality deterioration of concrete poles.
