Labor saving for train maintenance is strongly called for in recent years. This requires extension of the life of air hoses that are used in quantities. Some air hoses are used at places where they are exposed to oil and heat, for example, around the engines of diesel railway cars. At these places, currently used air hoses are exchanged once every three to four years, because they have several drawbacks in that their materials are not resistant against heat, sunshine or ozone. To solve this problem, we have developed a new type oil-proof air hose made of synthetic rubber and cloth that features long durability. Aging tests proved that the newly developed hose withstands use for more than 10 years.
