The noise caused by corrugated narrow-gauge wheels is normally stronger than that caused by conventional wheels. It is thought that wheels are easy to cause lateral vibration because there side plate becomes thinner. We investigated the sound radiation from wheels using 3D-FEM analysis, modal analysis and sound intensity measure. As a result, we found that the frequency of the main mode is 1,506Hz, and wheel vibration has a close relation with sound power. Furthermore, the solution obtained by FEM analysis agrees well with that obtained by experiments.
