PCBs were used in railways as the transformer oil for motor cars of Shinkansen and limited express trains. To study the disposal procedures of PCBs-contaminated transformers, we extracted the oil in a transformer with a pump and circulated isopropylalcohol (IPA) to remove residual oil. After that, we cut the shell of the transformer with a boring milling machine to reclaim the inside components made of steel, copper, woods and papers, which can be recycled or scrapped after the second washing process with IPA to satisfy the criterion on PCB waste treatment.
