Ayano SAITO,  Kohei FUJINAMI,  Hiroaki SUZUKI

In the light of universal design, two postal surveys were conducted to identify problems of the interior of longseat type commuter trains, to which 3,940 responses were obtained, including those from elderly respondents, respondents with short or high stature. As a result, it was clarified that main tasks to be addressed were to improve the supports for standing passengers, functional aspects in priority seats, information services about next stops and air-conditioning, and prevent nuisance behaviors of other passengers. Most respondents highly evaluated the action to improve accessibility by railway companies.
