Ability of Workers in Unusual Situations

Takafumi INOUE

The safety of railway operation has improved in usual situations due to a number of security measures. On the other hand, "the ability of workers in unusual situations" (hereinafter referred to as AWUS) to perform their duty is becoming more and more important, where safety is still dependent on it. AWUS is lower than that in usual situations since workers are unfamiliar with non-regular work and disturbed by their evoked tension. One of the ways to predict AWUS is to evaluate it in the education phase and another is in the aptitude test phase. This paper discusses methods of suitable evaluation for this purpose.
