Evaluation of Impact Loads at Rail Joints Induced by Moving Wheel Loads

Yoshitsugu MOMOYA,  Takahiro HORIIKE

It is important to reduce the maintenance work at rail joints of ballasted tracks, where ballast is deformed extensively by impact load. To efficiently develop countermeasures to reduce the maintenance work, it is necessary to obtain the dynamic deformation characteristics of rail joint by computer simulation. This paper proposes a simulation method for that purpose and describes the results of the scale model tests and motor car running tests implemented to confirm the accuracy of the method. On the ground of that confirmation, the effectiveness of the countermeasures to decrease the impact loads was evaluated by simulation.
