The purpose of this study is to develop a new joint structure between pile head and reinforced concrete footing that will withstand large earthquakes. To decrease the pile diameter and the amount of steel bars, which have increased to cope with large-scale earthquakes such as the Hyogoken Nambu Earthquake that hit the southern part of Hyogo prefecture, the joint structure is required to have high ductility. This paper introduces some studies on the joint structure having high ductility, our new proposals of the joint structure, a series of loading tests and test results on our proposal joint structures.
