Prediction of Interior Noise of Railway Vehicles Using Statistical Energy Analysis

Katsunori AKUTSU,  Mineyuki ASAHINA,  Hideki MINAMI

Reduction of interior noise of railway vehicles is one of the measures to improve the comfort of railway vehicles. If the interior noise level on running railway vehicles and the influence of noise sources on interior noise can be predicted at he planning stage, it is possible to efficiently develop railway vehicles. We studied the application of Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) to the prediction of interior noise of railway vehicles. This paper describes an outline of SEA, compares the measured results and those obtained from SEA in the case of railway vehicles, introduces the influence of noise sources on interior noise and discusses noise reduction measures by applying SEA.
