We have been studying a lightweight and high efficiency superconducting transformer for rolling stock to reduce a weight and to get a higher efficiency and developed a prototype by using the Bi-2223 high temperature superconducting wire. Its primary voltage is 25kV, which is widely used as a catenary voltage for high speed lines in the world. It has four secondary windings and a tertiary winding. The weight is 1.71t excluding that of the refrigerator. This paper describes the details and test results of the transformer.
