Active Noise Control System to Reduce Internal Noise

Katsuya YAMAMOTO,  Naoto TAGAWA,  Ko MIZUNO

In parallel with the development to raise train speed, methods to keep the noise in the passenger cabin at a certain level are being studied around the world. The conventional method for that purpose is to use sound insulation or adopt an elastic suspension system for internal panels, which is sort of "passive countermeasure." We developed a new active noise control (ANC) system that uses ceramic loudspeakers to reduce the noise transmitted through internal panels. This ANC system of module type with an independent control circuit attached with a necessary number of them on the back of internal panels. This paper outlines the ANC system, its basic principle, sound deadening effect and the result of running test of vehicle equipped with the ANC system.
