The 18th International Conference on Magnetically-Levitated Systems "MAGLEV2004" was held in October 2004 in Shanghai, China. Shanghai operates a Shanghai Maglev Demonstration Line known as the first commercial High-Speed Maglev in the world. About 260 participants in this Conference enjoyed a practical ride on this commercial high-speed Maglev and about 130 papers were fruitfully discussed by participants from 13 different countries. China is actively promoting a number of Maglev projects in the wake of the success of Shanghai Maglev. Transrapid is steadily making progress for commercialization in Germany and the US. This paper describes the recent status of world-wide maglev projects except those in Japan, which are presented in this Conference.
