The current collection performance can be grasped quantitatively by the contact force of pantograph. The contact force fluctuates depending on the condition of carenary such as the tension of overhead wire and the wear of contact wire. Researches until now have clarifed that there is a correlation between contact force and strain of contact wire. This paper outlines the technique determine the contact force from the acceleration and displacement of the PS206 series pantograph of the single arm type, and a device to calculate the contact force on a real time basis by applying this technique.
