Railway electric point machine requires improvement, in the maintenance aspects particularly in the lock which must be adjusted with 0.1 mm precision. The lock rod deviates slightly in position with each switching motion, making it difficult to monitor the status of the lock adjustment. A new monitoring system for the electric point switch was developed that can make possible to adjust the lock with high precision. Furthermore, this system can provide information on the dynamic characteristics of the switch when a train passes by.
