Application of Radio and Network Technology to Railway Systems

Kiyotaka SEKI,  Kunihiro KAWASAKI,  Kazuki NAKAMURA

In applying radio technology and network technology to railway systems, it is essential to evaluate their characteristics in advance. We have developed a program to estimate radio propagation characteristics between mobile stations as well as those between a mobile stations and a fixed station, and verified that the calculated characteristics coincided with the substantial measured one. We also measured the propagation characteristics at frequencies of general-purpose radio at a station and at a location along railway lines indicating the conditions required upon the usage. In action, we clarified transmission characteristics of ad-hoc network technology adaptable to railways systems by a simulation.
