Passenger Information System by Active Radio Tags

Kiyotaka SEKI,  Shoko SUZUKI

It is necessary to detect positions of passengers continuously in order to guide them from their starting stations to destinations. We manufactured a prototype system to monitor their positions with active-type RFID tags including the movements of passengers aboard the train to deliver appropriate information by e-mail on cellular phones with information on their current positions. The system is enabling to provide useful information under various situations such as arrival notice of their departing trains and or arrival time of each station en-route during their journey. We have verified that the system efficiently worked for a fundamental movement scenario.
