The Signalling and Telecommunications Technology Division have been engaged in the development of practical technologies for railway, such as train protection and transmission systems, and in basic research, for example in the field of track circuits and shunting. Major efforts in R&D for the future railways led to the finalisation in 2004 of the RTRI master plan covering Intelligent Train Control, and in 2005, in accordance with the new master plan (REAERCH 2005), Signalling System Restructuring Based on RAMS Criteria has been established. This paper describes these R&D activities at the Signalling and Telecommunications Technology Division.
