Fundamental Study on Seismic Response of Railway Viaduct with Ballasted Track

  The ballasted track on viaduct shall be modeled by the granular material coupled with the continuum elements that express the viaduct members. It is, however, in general modeled as a continuum when the seismic damage of viaduct is evaluated. However, if the earthquake response of the viaduct and track is influenced considerably by the dynamic coupling effect of the viaduct and the ballasted track, it shall be investigated in detail. In this study, first, the dynamic response characteristic of continuum model that supports granular material was examined with a scale model test. Nest, a numerical simulation technique of the dynamic coupled behavior of viaduct and ballasted track was proposed.
