Development of New Sintered Alloy Pantograph Sliders with Improved Lubrication Performance

Kazuyuki HANDA,  Shunichi KUBO,  Hiroshi TSUCHIYA

Copper base sintered alloy pantograph sliders have been widely used for the EMU and EL operated on conventional railway lines. However, the sintered alloy materials used for the vehicles were developed during the periods approximately 20-40 years before; improvements are required to upgrade the performance characteristics. Since carbon base materials have been widely used lately, the wear rate of contact wires has been allegedly decreased. Several studies have been made to develop suitable material to reduce the rate of wears rate of contact wires. The developed materials proved a drastic decrease of the wear rate of the contact wires as a result of stationary tests and vehicle running test.
