Enlargement of High Tc Superconducting Bulks by Step Heat Pattern

Hitoshi OZAKU

The preparation of c-axis oriented melt-processed high Tc superconducting takes a long time in the crystallization process by slow down heat pattern. Now, we have succeeded to synthesize efficiently large single-domain SmBCO melt-processed superconductors without Ag with 24mm in diameter by the new heat pattern. This pattern consists of 6 steps down starting from a temperature of peritectic point, and we name it "Step heat pattern". A phenomenon of Re-crystallization is found on the surface of the bulks with 40mm in diameter, treated by a modified Step heat pattern. Two new methods lead us to synthesis of a single-domain SmBCO melt-processed superconductor containing 10 wt% Ag2O with 24mm in a diameter, having a good performance.
