Evaluation of Bending Strength of Corroded Reinforced Concrete Member

Michiaki OYADO,  Tsutomu SATO

This paper studied about the influence of corrosion of the reinforcing bar on bending performance of the reinforced concrete (RC) member in order to serve for the maintenance of the reinforced concrete structures. Bending tests on the corroded RC members and 3 dimensional shape scanning of the corroded reinforcing bar were carried out. It was proved that the tensile strength of the reinforcing bar and the ultimate strength of the RC member were decreased by not only the weight loss (which means the averaged reduction of cross section) of the reinforcing bar but also the localized corrosion. And it was also seen that the reduction of cross sectional area of the reinforcing bar at the locally corroded position is about two times as large as the averaged reduction.
