Experiment and Finite Element Analysis for the Flexural and Shear Behavior of Masonry Piers

Toshiya TADOKORO,  Seiichi TOTTORI,  Hisamichi HATTORI

Until the early part of the 20th century, a large amount of masonry structures were constructed, a great number of structures that were built in those days are still in service now. It is essential to evaluate the performance of masonry structures from the view point of maintenance. However the method of evaluation of the structural performance is not clear for the present. Therefore, in this study, the loading test and finite element analysis for masonry piers were carried out to find the evaluation method. As the study result, the analytical results agreed well with the experimental ones. Further, the means of prediction for the shear strength by means of numerical analysis was suggested.
