It is necessary to estimate the strength of masonry lining tunnels in order to maintain the deformed ones or assess the influence of adjacent construction work. Nevertheless, the estimation methods have not been established yet. Accordingly, the authors carried out the loading tests by using 1/30 scale tunnel lining models to investigate the mechanical properties of masonry tunnel lining. Consequently, the following features have been grasped in this research: 1) the masonry tunnel lining is a very flexible structure and its strength is nearly equal to the concrete one; 2) the deformation characteristics of masonry lining tunnel are dependent on the condition and strength of a joint.
