Just-in-time Information Delivery System for Intelligent Travel Aids

Michiko NOZUE,  Ryuji TSUCHIYA

We propose a mechanism in which information is provided to travelers in a proactive but non-intrusive manner, taking into consideration their temporal and spatial context. In contrast to a conventional push-type information transmittal system, which includes location-sensitive and/or itinerary-based information filtering, our system is characterized by its ability to store and manage previously seen information (i.e. information that has been collected by users themselves) which will be presented to users whenever necessary as a part of the dynamically variable information menu. Moreover, by integrating users' temporal and spatial context, we have increased the the robustness of the system to the change of users' schedules and travel itineraries. The evaluation test of the first prototype of our system revealed some requirements, which are essential to identify the context of users whose schedule and travel itinerary are registered to the system in advance.
