Flexural Strength with Due Consideration on Tension Flange in RC Beam having Reverse-T-section

Yuzuru ASHITANI,  Masaru OKAMOTO,  Yukihiro TANIMURA

A beam constructed together with the slab in a unit such as the upper beams in RC rahmen elevated bridge becomes T-section beam having the slab as flange. In the design as current railway structures, with respect to the beam in which the slab becomes compression flange, effective width is set and the flexural strength is calculated as T-Section. On the other hand, when the slab becomes tension flange, reinforcing bar in flange in disregarded and assumed as a rectangular section, thus the flexural strength is thought to be undervalued. In this research, a model load test was performed to examine the influence of the flange on flexural rigidity, flexural strength and destructiveness. As a result, it has been understood that the reinforcing bar in tension flange effectively contributes to be bend properties.
