Evaluation of Shear Strength of the Head of RC Piles

  In the design of RC piles in the relatively hard ground, the diameter of piles and the amount of hoop reinforcements are determined based on shear strength. However, there is possibility to underestimate the shear strength of piles because of application of the evaluation method developed from the experiments of RC beams with rectangular sections. Thus, in this study, loading test of the specimens modeled on the head of RC piles was curried out, moreover, fracture mechanism of RC piles was studied by using finite element method, and as a result, the more precise method of evaluation of RC piles was suggested.
