Evaluation Method of Bending Deformation Capacity of RC Plies Subjected to Confining Pressure in the Ground

  RC piles are subjected to the confining pressure from the subgrade, so it is expected that the deformation capacity of RC piles is larger than those obtained from the experimental test results in the air. The purpose of this study is to establish the simple evaluation method of the ductility for RC piles. Firstly the evaluation method of the ductility for RC piles has been proposed, which converts the confining pressure from the subgrade into an equivalent confining pressure from hoop reinforcements. Secondary the alternate horizontal loading tests of RC piles in the pressurizing soil-filled chamber have been conducted. Finally the results obtained from the numerical simulation using the proposed method have been compared with these experimental results, and then the effectiveness of the newly developed method has been confirmed.
