In order to create some fatigue design diagrams for welds of aluminum alloy carbody shell, fatigue tests were carried out. The weld of hollow extrusions of the doubled-skinned shell and the two kinds of reinforcement welds of the single-skinned shell were chosen as representatives of welds of carbody shell. The fatigue design diagram for the weld of hollow extrusions was created through the statistical treatment on the S-N curve obtained from the fatigue tests using small and full-scale test pieces, and also the common diagram for two kinds of the reinforcement welds of the single-skinned shell was created in the same manner using full-scale test pieces. Those diagrams evaluate the fatigue strength by the stress range of the mother material in the vicinity of weld.
