Hybrid electric vehicle (or Electric Multiple Units) can be defined as railway electric vehicles (EMU) fed by contract feeder line (trolley) and on-board electric energy storage device. We report on the hybrid control algorithm of trolley hybrid electric vehicles, and on the running test results with on-board rechargeable lithium ion battery and EDLS (Electric Double Layer Capacitor). Instead being cancelled out as is usual the case with the normal inverter fed EMU in times of trolley power supply stops, regenerative brake with the developed hybrid control has demonstrated the required performance of the designed regenerative power continued till the zero speed.
