Track circuit shunting performance depends on a wheelset impedance and contact resistance between wheels and rails. Both conditions of rail surface and wheel tread especially affect the latter. As signaling systems many efforts made to cope with this problem, however a countermeasure for the vehicle is indispensable for further improvement. Accordingly, we developed a plan to improve the track circuit shunting performance in view of vehicle systems, and we obtained promising results through running tests. We report details of the above countermeasure and test results in this paper.
