Basic Study about Surge Transmitting on AC Electric Car Body

Takashi MAEDA, Shintaro OHE, Takashi SASAKAWA

It is a well-known fact that an abnormal high voltage occurs between carbody and rail when a pantograph contacts catenaries. This may lead to a damage of on-board equipment, it is therefore important to investigate such mechanism. The surge (a high voltage wave) transmits on a multi-conductor system consisting of catenaries-carbody-rail. Therefore, this phenomenon occurs on a boundary of each subsystem. We study on the voltage fluctuation at transition points, namely, at ends of carbody, points under pantograph using a reduced-scale experimental model and basic analysis.
