A huge number of ground coils will be required for outdoor use over an extended period of time. Therefore, security of stable performance and high reliability is an important subject in development of the ground coil. The durability verification from materials level to finished products on the assumption of actual service conditions is essential in securing the total reliability of the Magnetically Levitated transportation (MAGLEV) system. We therefore examined environmental degradation characteristics using the resin blocks simulated a cross-section of the actual ground coil. As a result, we obtained valuable knowledge regarding deterioration characteristics for an environmental factor and temperature dependence of deterioration speed.
