We are developing a new ATP system called "ATS-X system" which is interoperable with the existing ATS-Sx system introduced into almost all narrow-gauge lines of JR companies. In this ATS-X system, a limited speed reference pattern is generated at an on-board device by using digital information transmitted from beacons intermittently. Therefore, the safety level of ATS-X system is higher than that of ATS-Sx system. We considered the basic functional specification of ATS-X system with seven JR companies for practical use. In this paper, we report the basic functional specification of ATS-X system and the functional test results at field.
