Development of Train Detection Equipment by Microwave Balise for Use on Low Short Track Circuit Sensitivity Sections

Tatsuya SASAKI

Track circuits as provided in long tunnel sections have problems in their maintenance and function because of leakage of electric current affected by varied environmental conditions in wet and dry seasons. It is therefore necessary to provide new train detection equipment for such locations without provision of track circuits. We expect the forgoing problems solved by train detection equipment of COMBAT, which is a non-contact type detection system using wireless communications. In addition, it detects a train at a continuous detection block by using microwave Balise with ID. If adjacent detection blocks provided with track circuits without ID, we are required to make ID information because the equipment is not possible to detect a train. Consequently, we developed new detection logic by microwave Balise using adjacent track circuit information.
