Status-Quo and Perspective of Design Standards for Railway Structures

  Design standards are indispensable to construct railway structures safely and economically, and maintain its safety under various conditions. The design standard is one of technical standards stipulated by the government. Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport entrusted Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI) to prepare drafts of the design standards. Substantially, Structures Technology Division of RTRI has so far prepared a number of draft standards. In addition, we, Structure Division have provided and maintained various Design Guidelines, Manuals, Case Studies and other pertinent data. This paper describes the status-quo of our activities and perspective in relation to provision of design standards for railway structures.
