The design standards for railway earth structures were recently revised under the leadership of a technical committee. The committee directed by a chairperson of Prof. Fumio Tatsuoka mainly consisting of various members from universities or railway companies revised the past design standard established about fourteen years ago. The revised new standards are based on the performance-based design method. This paper describes the outline of the new design standards.
