Tensile Strength of Discontinuous Plane for Rock Slope Stability

Takeshi KAWAGOE,  Takuya URAKOSHI,
Takehiro OHTA,  Hideaki ENOMOTO

The authors carried out a tensile strength of discontinuous plane research to assess quantitatively rock slope stability, paying attention to the occurrence of rock falls. As the result, the strength measured by the Point Load Test considered applicable as an index of the tensile strength of the Direct Tensile Test. In addition, it was apparent that the point load strength of discontinuous plane depended on the ratio of fresh area to weathering area and a part of weathering area on the plane, and was influenced by the anisotropic structure of rock.
