In general, the noise generated from steel railway bridges is greater than those from concrete viaduct lines. Two reasons for that are conceivable, one is that around steel bridge the structure-borne noise generated due to the vibration of members of bridges, the other is that the rolling noise directly translated to trackside. In order to develop a countermeasure to these noises effectively, the authors derived a method to analyze the amount of power of each noise source. In addition, we examined the application of materials to reduce these noises as an inexpensive countermeasure than the cost of girder cover.
