When an indentation occurs on race surface of a rolling element bearing, it is thought that a flaking of bearing is originated from this indentation. There is not a method to practically evaluate influence of an indentation on life of a bearing now. For axlebox rolling bearings which are practically used, we prepared two cases, namely the case with one indentation and the other case with plural indentations on bearing inner rings with Rockwell indenter and Brinell indenter which are tools to measure hardness, and carried out bearing rotation tests. After tests, we examined presence of flaking to originate from an indentation.
