Materials for railway have been developed and improved to increase the added value and to improve the economic performance of railway traffic services. The introduction of new materials, such as high-performance functional materials, eco-materials, intelligent materials, nano-materials and so on, for railway area is expected to promote innovative changes in the railway field. On the other hand, improvements of conventional materials are expected to bring about substantial results. Phenomenon analysis and establishment of evaluation method are required to promote the material development.
