Evaluation of Rolling Noise Properties by 3-D Vibro-Acoustic Analysis

Minoru SASAKURA,  Kiyoshi SATO

In recent years, rolling noises have become an important problem of narrow-gauge railway vehicles. The noises are composed of rail noise and wheel one. The characteristics of frequency have been investigated by running tests experimentally. However, the details have not yet become clear. Therefore, this paper reports the 3-D characteristics of rail and wheel sound radiations obtained from FEM and BEM analysis. We have found that the main frequency of rail noise occurs mainly from bottom and flange. The sound power of C-type conventional wheel has the lowest level compared with other wheels. Furthermore, the reflection of rail sound and wheel one is also analysed by BEM.
