We investigated the distortion process of the compression wave propagating through a tunnel with ballasted track by field measurement and numerical simulation. Based on the results of the field measurement, we developed a new simulation method in which the effect of ballast layer on the compression waves is replaced approximately with that of unsteady friction. The results of the numerical simulation agree with those of the fields measurement. In addition, as a countermeasure against micro-pressure waves, we investigated the effects by the method where additional layers of ballast material are placed in a tunnel with slab track.
