Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Boundary Layers using a Combination of a Stochastic Method and an Unsteady Flow Simulation Method

Koji NAKADE,  Masahiro SUZUKI

A new numerical method for generation of inflow turbulence called "mixing model of freestream turbulence and boundary-layer" is proposed as a method to provide an inflow boundary condition in unsteady numerical simulation. Flow fields simulated by the model are numerically mixed to generate turbulent boundary layer with large velocity fluctuation. A numerical test result using the model for a velocity profile with boundary roughened showed penetration of freestream turbulence eddies into the boundary layer, and demonstrated the effectiveness of the model for the simulation of turbulent boundary layer with freestream turbulence.
