Aerodynamic characteristics of pantographs for high-speed trains are critical to steady current collection. We introduce a new panhead in which air is taken in at the leading edge and ejected around the trailing edge to control the lift force. We estimate aerodynamic characteristics of this panhead by a numerical simulation and a wind tunnel experiment. The results indicate that the lift force is effectively controllable by this panhead.
