Development of Train Operation and Passenger Flow Simulator

Taketoshi KUNIMATSU,  Chikara HIRAI,  Norio TOMII

We have developed a simulation system for train operation and passengers' train choice behavior. Two estimations and parallely conducted in the system, namely train delay due to congestion and each passenger's train choice. It can represent the interaction between train delay and passengers' behavior. It also models four types of passengers' attitude toward train choice, namely the choice of the earliest, transfer avoidance, congestion avoidance, transfer and congestion avoidance, reflecting each passengers' preference. We applied this system to an actual line in the metropolitan area, and evaluated two train schedules by calculating the generalized cost reflecting each passenger's disutility in this experience. We can conclude that the method is promising for train schedule evaluation.
