Evaluation Method of Robustness for Train Schedules

Yoko TAKEUCHI,  Norio TOMII,  Chikara HIRAI

The aim of this study is to examine qualitative and quantitative characteristics that robust train schedules should have. Our proposed method that can evaluate robustness of train schedules has two main characteristics. One is that we focused on passengers' disutility. The other is that we developed probabilistic model for train operations and evaluated them statistically. To calculated the robustness indices, we have applied the Monte Carlo simulation method, which performs iterative train-passenger simulations. In this paper, we have carried out some simulation experiments that calculated the robustness indices for several train schedules, and the results have been compared with one another.
