Providing Forecasted Information on Disturbed Train Operations to Passengers

Toshiyuki IZUMI,  Michiko NOZUE,  Rryuji TSUCHIYA

Providing appropriate travel guidance information to passenger when train operations are disturbed is a challenging problem for every railway company. According to various previous surveys, passengers are eager to obtain information pertinent to which train arrives earlier at their destinations, and they often wish to know how their trains would be congested. We propose a mechanism in which forecasted information on disturbed train operations is transmitted to passengers as well as train crews and station staffs. In this paper, we report the overview of the mechanism and a prototype system that we have developed. We anticipate that reliable travel information will be timely available for passengers not only limited at station premises but also aboard trains through the foregoing system.
