Numerical simulation analyses were performed under several conditions to estimate the probability of occurrence of thoracic injuries of passengers due to the side partition who were seated on a bench seat. These injuries were clarified in a previous research on a past train collision. According to the simulation results, a passenger's rib deflection by the side partition of the board type is less than by that of the pipe type. That means that there are less thoracic injuries of passengers by the board-type side partition. The experimental impact test was also performed to verify the results of the numerical simulation analyses.
