Approximately twenty years have passed since the development of glued insulated rail joint. Currently the insulated fishplates are in use for existing railway track and Shinkansen track, which have been contributive to reduce track maintenance work for the fishplates. However, a number of defects, i.e. fishplate damages, loss of glue, and inferior insulation have recently occurred, accordingly countermeasures therefore required. In this study, we carried out in situ tests on an operating track to evaluate precisely the stress occurred on the fishplates. We developed a remedial method superior in corrosion resistant on glued surface of the fishplates; performed performance characteristic tests by the new method and verified the effectiveness of anti-corrosion and durability of the fishplates.
