Point guards which consists of guardrails and tie plates for fastening to sleepers are installed in turnouts whose tongue rails severely wear out and similar flexure turnouts whose radius of curvature are small. However, much time and labor force is indispensable for removal/restoration of guardrails of ordinary point guards upon maintenance/inspection of the point turnout as compared with the point of turnout without any point guard. Hence, the development of a new point guard has been expected to reduce the wear of tongue rails and the cost of maintenance/inspection. Then, we developed a point guard readily capable of moving guardrail to outer area of work site and equipped with damage preventive measure for bolts.
